As operators require additional, and more varied, 10GbE-based services to be handled by their existing and growing OTN backbone, efficient ingress and egress become mandatory.
An OTN transponder is the most straightforward, cost-effective answer for delivering Ethernet encapsulation inside OTN lines for backbone interconnection.
The Pluggable Hex OTN OTU2(e) Transponder makes it possible to use EKINOPS at the OTN line side as a client of OTN backbones. A single EKINOPS PM O6006 allows economical adaptation of up to 10GbE clients to/from six independent OTU2(e) lines in a compact 2 slot module compatible with existing compact 2RU or 7RU EKINOPS chassis.
The EKINOPS PM O6006 can also be used as a triple OTN regenerator of OTU2(e) lines.
The EKINOPS solution can be utilized for both greenfield and existing deployments with no need to replace a line system already in place.
The EKINOPS PM O6006 is supported by Celestispilot, the EKINOPS Network Manager. At the element level, the PM O6006 can be managed through SNMP or via the EKINOPS standard element level management interfaces, which includes a CLI (Command Line Interface) and an EKINOPS java-based GUI (Graphical User Interface). The CLI is accessible via SSH and Telnet remotely or via a local serial port on the management board. Complete performance monitoring and management are provided, including laser shutoff and local and remote loopback, which is useful for maintenance and fault isolation.
Digital Diagnostics Management (DDM) is supported for SFP+ interfaces. This includes link status, transmit (TX) and receive (RX) signal power monitoring, and operational temperature, as well as manufacturer and transceiver model. G709 General Communication Channel (GCC) is embedded in the line side for remote management.
