The EKINOPS 100G solution is a unique offering in the industry. Unlike others in the industry, the EKINOPS RM 10001/10010 is a 1 RU rack mountable, self contained 100G transponder and muxponder all in one. This EKINOPS 100G solution includes its own management card, fans, and power. When multiple of these units are stacked together, they are treated as a single unit for management purposes (i.e. they have a single IP address). Whether or not the device performs as a Muxponder or Transponder is determined only by which firmware it is running (i.e. there is no hardware difference in the two configurations). This 1 RU offering is ideal for space constrained applications like wireless backhaul for instance where transport systems sometimes have to be deployed in small cabinets on top of buildings or in other locations that are limited in space. Of course, the 1 RU offering is also ideal for applications where the 100G service must utilize co-location facilities that are priced by footprint and power.
Because the EKINOPS 1 RU 100G solution uses the same hardware for both a transponder and muxponder, one can deploy either a transponder or muxponder day 1 and then convert the same 1 RU hardware into the other with only a firmware upgrade. This allows customers to preserve their investment in many applications. An example would be in wireless backhaul for instance where today the backhaul network is made up of 10G rings but it is known that one day, those rings will either converge into or become a 100G ring. The EKINOPS 100G solution also offers a very flexible multiplexing capability. This is why the EKINOPS 100G muxponder has 12 aggregation ports instead of the normal 10 as is offered by others. Because the EKINOPS 100G utilizes EKINOPS' T CHIP® (Transport on-a-Chip technology), with EKINOPS' DynaMUX® capability, the EKINOPS 100G muxponder is not limited to aggregating only 10G services like other vendors' solutions.
And where it does not make sense to multiplex lower rate services directly on the muxponder (you are limited to 10 aggregation ports), one can plug EKINOPS' PM C1008MP flexible multiplexer directly into ports on the 100G muxponder allowing for aggregation without an expensive fabric or another device. The PM C1008MP allows the aggregation of a mix of 1GbE, 1/2/4G Fibre Channel, STM-4/OC-12, and STM-16/OC-48 along with the traffic being aggregated by the other 9 ports in the 100G Muxponder. The PM C1008MP multiplexer can be plugged into one or all of the muxponder ports on the RM 10001/10010. Of course, other EKINOPS aggregation cards can be utilized to multiplex even lower rate services into the PM C1008MP which are then multiplexed into the 100G service. Examples would be utilizing the PM 124FE to aggregate 10/100 services or the PM 1004V to aggregate and transport SD / HD-SDI video.
Of course, the EKINOPS 100G product offering can be utilized anywhere you are considering 100G whether it be for single 100G services or for aggregation of lower rate services onto 100G. The EKINOPS 100G 1 RU solution is particularly differentiated in these service offerings in that it is ideal for space constrained applications where power and space are of the essence. The flexibility of the EKINOPS 100G is also unmatched by others and allows for the cost effective aggregation of lower rate services for applications that require data rates below 100G. Finally, the EKINOPS solution can be utilized for green field deployments and existing deployments without the need to replace the line system already in place. The EKINOPS 100G 1 RU solution allows one to conveniently stack a single unit above an existing chassis and add 100G services without the need to spare a new management card or a new chassis other than the self contained 1 RU 100G transponder/ muxponder itself. New services can be added to existing systems without service disruption.
At the element level, the RM 10001/10010 can be managed through SNMP or via the EKINOPS standard element level management interfaces, which includes a CLI (Command Line Interface) and an EKINOPS java-based GUI (Graphical User Interface). The CLI is accessible via SSH and Telnet remotely or via a local serial port locally. Complete performance monitoring and management is provided, including laser shut off and local and remote loopback which is useful for maintenance and fault isolation. Digital Diagnostics Management (DDM) is supported for SFP+ interfaces. This includes link status, transmit (TX) and receive (RX) signal power monitoring, and operational temperature, as well as manufacturer and transceiver model. A 10 Mb in-band Data Communications Channel (DCC) is embedded in the line side for remote management. Of course, the RM 10001/10010 is supported by the EKINOPS Java Craft Interface and the EKINOPS Multi-Protocol Service and Network Manager.
