As traffic on education and corporate networks increases and the cost of 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches decreases more and more service providers are asked by their customers to provide 10-Gigabit interconnect services.
However, in responding to this welcome demand, many operators are faced with a challenge of connecting a client's 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch to the operator's existing SONET, SDH or DWDM infrastructure. While most operators have an installed base of OC-192/STM-64 network, the 9.953 Gb/s SONET/SDH data rate is not compatible with 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
The 10G Ethernet standard specifies two types of PHY (physical interface): LAN PHY and WAN PHY. 10G WAN PHY operates at a data rate compatible with SONET OC-192c and SDH STM-64, but 10G LAN PHY does not.
Ekinops' PM1001PC is a 10G LAN PHY to WAN PHY protocol converter that helps carriers overcome this challenge. It is a stand-alone and extremely cost-effective solution for connecting 10 Gigabit LAN switches to 10G SONET/SDH and DWDM networks.
The 1001PC supports any LAN or WAN PHY interface for a full range of 10G transport options from 9.95 Gb/s to 10.7 Gb/s. It encapsulates 10G Ethernet packets into SONET/SDH frames compatible with OC-192/STM-64 bit rate and supports XFP interfaces for maximum flexibility.
Cost-effective way to connect two separate 10G Ethernet networks via a carrier's SONET or DWDM infrastructure.
Allows service providers to use their installed base of OC-192/STM16 SONET/SDH and DWDM networks for the transport of 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
Eliminates the need for expensive router interfaces
