SAN Interconnect
Need Companies in many industries are now required by both regulatory and business needs to implement a plan for disaster recovery and business continuance. These plans call for data replication of critical information across a geographically dispersed Storage Area Network (SAN). Data replication requires a transport system that can handle large amounts of data. For that reason having fiber between data centers is the ideal solution especially in cases of extended distance between sites. In the event that fiber is not available, a high-speed SONET/SDH line will provide a good alternative.

challenges Cost effective connectivity of data centers over fiber or a leased circuit presents a few challenges. Although there are several storage extension options available, in today's economy, the challenge lies in choosing a solution that will:
    • Minimize expenses when leasing fiber for transporting large amounts of data
    • Leverage existing infrastructure to the greatest extent possible
    • Have the ability to transport other enterprise protocols, such as Gigabit Ethernet in addition to SAN traffic
    • Provide connectivity over SONET and SDH lines when fiber is unavailable
    • Adapt to any topology (point-to-point and ring)
    • Scale up to accommodate traffic growth with ease
    • Reduce the number of devices required to connect between the customer's SAN switch and the carrier's network
ekinops solutions Ekinops TDM aggregation technology substantially lowers the cost of storage extension and provides connectivity over metro and regional optical networks or over a carrier's SONET/SDH network.

Data replication over fiber using WDM
To reduce operational cost the Ekinops platform aggregates up to eight Gigabit Fibre Channels (GFC) or five 2 GFC channels over a single wavelength and requires only one fiber between data centers. For higher capacity applications, the network can be scaled further by using CWDM or DWDM to multiplex several wavelengths on the same fiber. Using only one fiber for carrying multiple wavelengths and multiple channels per wavelength lowers the capital and operational cost of SAN extension. The Ekinops platform supports point-to-point configurations or protected fiber rings where protocols can be added and dropped at different sites. Each signal can be transported over a primary or redundant path for protection in case of a fiber cut. The Ekinops platform is optimized for extended distances utilizing FEC and digital wrapper technology. For maximum flexibility, each wavelength can aggregate most other network protocols in addition to Fibre Channel. Data replication over Fiber using WDM

Managed Storage Services or Data replication over leased OC-48 Lines
When a high-speed connection between data centers is needed but fiber is not available, data centers can be connected with an OC-48 leased line. Ekinops offers a simple and cost effective solution that allows enterprise customers and service providers to transport Fibre Channel traffic over an OC-48/STM-16 line. The Ekinops PM253 provides an elegant solution for transporting FC and/or GbE over a SONET/SDH networks that eliminates the need for additional network elements. Service providers can use the PM253 at the edge of their network to provide managed storage service over an existing SONET/SDH network.
