Ekinops PM 253 Overview

The PM 253 is part of the Ekinops 360 and is an ideal solution for service providers that offer Gigabit Ethernet and OC-48 services. It is a one-slot module that operates in two modes.

In the first mode it aggregates and transports cost-effectively two GbE or GFC inputs over an OC-48/STM-16 line. In the second mode it is used as a CPE to transport OC-48 or STM-16 and has an OC-48/STM-16 interface on the client and line side. The PM 253 offers optional 1+1 protection in both modes and accepts standard SFP optics. Using appropriate SFPs, the PM 253 supports CWDM & DWDM and long haul transmission.

The OC-48/STM-16 line interface is fully compatible with SONET/SDH equipment and STS-48c/AU4-16c and STS-24c/AU4-8c framing. With a programmable FPGA architecture, the capabilities of the PM 253 can be easily extended to support new standards and features through in-service upgrades.
