10G Transponders & Regenerators
Overview
The PM C1001 transport modules are part of the Ekinops 360 platform and are used as 10G (OC-192/STM-64, 10GbE, and 10G Fibre Channel) Transponders and regenerators. The PM C1001 transport modules consist of the PM C1001 (10GbE and OC-192/STM-64 double wide long haul transponder for the C600 chassis), the PM C1001HC (10GbE and OC-192/STM-64 single wide, high density, Very Long-Haul transponder for the C600HC chassis) and the PM 1001RR (10GbE, OC-192/STM-64, 10G Fibre Channel metro transponder and regenerator). The PM C1001 allows for up to 10 10G transponders in a 6RU chassis (the C600) while the C1001HC and the C1001RR allow for 20 10G transponders in a 7RU chassis (the C600HC). The C1001 has 6.5dB FEC for long haul applications, the C1001HC has Ekinops' 10dB DynaFEC® for very long haul applications, and the PM 1001RR has no FEC and is used for metro and regional applicaitons and as a regenerator. The PM 1001RR allows for 2 long haul optics on the same single wide card creating a single card regenerator for the PM 1001RR and the PM C1001. The PM C1001HC also has a single card regenerator called the PM C1002 (which also serves as a dual 10G card and a single 10G transponder with on board protection).
The PM C1001 transponders can be used to transport 10G traffic in Metro, Regional, and Long haul DWDM networks. They can also be used to increase capacity of existing WDM networks (i.e. Ekinops transponders can be deployed on exisitng line systems in order to gain the cost and performance advantages of the Ekinops 360). Because of the superior performance of the Ekinops PM C1001 modules, they can ofter bypass regeration sites when they are used to upgrade existing WDM networks.
