40G Muxponder, WaveBonding® Mux, 4 x 10Gb/s over 40G Fixed WDM line port with DCC
Overview
The PM4001 and PM4004 provide 40 Gigabit transport with industry leading performance. The PM4001 is a serial 40 Gigabit transponder providing both a 40G client and line interface. The 40G client on the PM4001 supports an industry standard 40G CFP Ethernet Interface. The PM4004 is a 4x10G to 40G Muxponder. The PM4004 10G client interfaces support 10G Ethernet (LAN Phy and WAN Phy) as well as SONET/SDH OC-192/STM-64 protocols.
The 40G line interface on both the PM 4001 and the PM 4004 use a unique 40G technology developed by Ekinops called Wave Bonding®. The Ekinops WaveBonding® technology is a capability that tightly bonds lower rate wavelengths together to achieve a single higher rate data stream. The lower rate wavelengths are bound into the same spectrum that would typically be used by competitive technologies to carry a single wavelength. For instance, the PM4001 and the PM 4004 tightly bind 4 10G wavelengths into 100GHz to achieve a 40G line rate. WaveBonding® technology allows for higher rate transport with a performance similar to that of the lower rate being utilized to achieve the higher rate. So, in the case of the PM4001 and the PM4004, 40G transport is achieved at 100GHz with the performance of 10G transport at 100GHz where performance is defined as PMD, Dispersion, and Distance characteristics. The PM4001 and the PM4004 provide transport of up to 2200Km with PMD and Dispersion characteristics that would normally be expected of native 10G transport.
The PM 4004 and the PM 4001 are the industries only scalable 40G transponder/muxponder technology that allows you to use standard 10G transponders to build a 40G muxponder or native 40G transponder, with only a small incremental cost. One can deploy standard Ekinops 10G transponders today and when desired, transform those transponders into a 40G transponder or muxponder by combining them using our industry unique WaveBonding® Mux (see the WaveBonding® Mux Datasheet). When building a 40G muxponder, one can combine Ekinops 10G transponders and muxponders to create a custom muxponder that multiplexes any mix of traffic into 40G. An example would be combining three C1008MPs and one C1001 into a 40G wave. Each of the C1008MPs allow one to aggregate any mix of up to 8 services (1GE, 1/2/4G FC, OC12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16) into the aggregate 40G line. The C1001 then allows the aggregation of one 10G (Ethernet or SONET/SDH) into the same 40G line.
Applications
The most common applications for the PM4001 are router interconnect and high bandwidth, native 40G transport :
The most common application for the PM4004 is increased capacity at 10G. Using the 4x10G muxponder, one can carry 4 10G services in the same spectrum that would normally be used for 1 :
Because the Ekinops 40G WaveBonding® technology has such good OSNR tolerance, Ekinops 40G can be used to upgrade existing third Party WDM equipment already deployed. This is particularly useful given that most competitive 40G solutions do not perform as well as 10G and cannot overlay existing deployments. This capability can be used to upgrade legacy transport systems to 40G for serial 40G applications or to increase the number of 10G waves allowed on the legacy system for increased capacity at 10G (using the PM4004) :
