PM C1008GE

The PM C1008GE can provide either point to point transport or add drop multiplexing of Gigabit Ethernet services. This module multiplexes up to eight Gigabit Ethernet services over 10 Gbps with an OC-192/STM-64 line rate. The PM 1008GE can be used to transport these Gigabit Ethernet services point to point or in ring configurations. When used as an Add Drop Multiplexer (ADM), the PM C1008GE allows up to 8 Gigabit Ethernet services to be added and dropped at up to eight locations from the shared 10 Gbps line with the use of only a single PM C1008GE at each add-drop location.

This is much more efficient than traditional Gigabit Ethernet transport multiplexers that do not support add drop capability and that require the services to be added and dropped using two multiplexer modules at each site. In addition, traditional Gigabit Ethernet transport multiplexers require a wavelength between each pair of sites that the Ethernet services are transported from and to whereas the PM C1008GE can share a single wavelength amongst multiple sites to which the Gigabit Ethernet services are delivered.

Because of the flexibility of the PM C1008GE, it can be used for a multitude of applications. It can be utilized in any application that requires Gigabit Ethernet services to be transported from one site to another. Ideal applications for the PM C1008GE include Business Ethernet Services, IP DSLAM Backhauling, Access Aggregation, Triple or Quadruple play, Transport Infrastructure and Wireless Backhaul (3G/4G). When used as an ADM, the PM C1008GE can provide a savings of more than 50% in capital expense over traditional Gigabit Ethernet transport multiplexers through the reduction of multiplexer cards and wavelength utilization as shown in the example above. Because the PM C1008GE implements its ADM capability in Layer 1, the multiplexer is much more cost effective than Layer 2 Ethernet switching alternatives that provide the same capability. Layer 2 switching based solutions require more expensive hardware to implement Ethernet switching.
